Hello WARL Friends & Animal Lovers,
By now I'm sure most of you are aware of the financial challenges the Worcester Animal Rescue League is facing. The Worcester T&G wrote an article about it last Sunday, October 14th. I am disheartened to think that the WARL could be closing its doors next year...if it does not receive the financial support it needs. While it's true that the WARL relies heavily on adoption fees, boarding, fundraising events, etc., a large portion of their financial support has been through an endowment, which unfortunately now is dwindling fast.
I'm still shocked by the very thought of the WARL closing its doors! What will become of our animals in need - the strays from Worcester, Holden, Shrewsbury and surrounding towns??? I am concerned for Doreen and her staff, who are so caring and work so hard everyday to provide a "safe place" for animals to lay their heads. Both of my dogs Sheba and Scarlet (now both 9 years old) are WARL rescue dogs, and we adopted them in 1998. They are "our kids" and I can't imagine what would have happened to them if the WARL was not there to "come to their rescue"!
The WARL has evolved from a local shelter with its primary goal of rescuing animals and placing them in good homes... to now proactively working towards reducing the numbers of stray animals in our community...by spaying/neutering every animal that they rescue. I'm sure you're all aware of the WARL's on-site surgery suite, which performs ongoing spay/neuter and emergency procedures. The WARL is currently contracted with the VCA Hospital in Northboro, and the VCA's veterinarians are on-site at the WARL Mon-Wed, and as needed. Without the WARL, there will be "no safe place" for animals. We as a community should join together and support them!
Please join me in offering your support by adopting, sending a donation, or spreading the word to all animal lovers and Worcester County residents! If you would like to make a donation, please send a check made payable to the Worcester Animal Rescue League at 139 Holden Street, Worcester, MA 01606. Doreen Currier can be reached by e-mail at petsavr@aol.com, or by phone at(508)853-0030. The WARL's website: www.worcester-arl.org Hours of operation are M-S 10-4 p.m.
Thank you for your continued support! With your help...we can really make a difference...and save the WARL and its animals.
