Greyhounds Make the Ballot |

The real race is on. Animal advocates, under the guise of GREY2K USA, got things spinning in their direction and a question to enact the Greyhound Protection Act will log in as number three on this year's electoral ballot in November.
As in 2000, voters will have a chance to vote out greyhound racing in Massachusetts, ultimately phasing out the cruel practice at Wonderland and Raynham Parks, the remaining racetracks in the state, by 2010.
With a furious grassroots effort at the hands of the organization Committee to Protect Dogs, overseen by GREY2K USA, , nearly 3,000 dog lovers collected 150,000 signatures from voters in every city and town in the Commonwealth. Fighting court opposition from George Carney, owner of the Raynham Park, advocates are delighted in their success.
"We look to a robust public education campaign this fall," says Christine Dorchak, president of GREY2K USA and co-chairperson of the Committee to Protect Dogs. "Once voters learn about the cruelty of dog racing at Wonderland and Raynham Parks, they will vote for the dogs."
