Everyone who knows me knows my intense connection to Puffy, an exceptionally furry black and white cat with pink lips and a personality that would turn anyone into a cat lover. I lost my sweet soulmate the morning of Oct. 6, and it will have to go down as one of the darkest days of my life. ![]() This little guy was with me every day, whether I was thinking about him, whether he was following me around the house, rocking in my arms, or sleeping on my chest. Hardly one of those "aloof" felines, Puffy's demeanor was sweet to the core. I quite often walked around with him draped over my shoulder. I held him by the window so we could watch and talk about the weather together, and explain to him how I could never let him out there because I couldn't bear to see him get hurt. He came running to me when I called him, "like a dog." He had a dainty, funny meow, which came out easily in the morning when you first patted him. He loved water - especially if it was swirling. He was a master paw batter, and we'd play the "baby deadmouse game" often. This involved him sitting on top of the 'fridge, while I pitched a fake toy mouse his way - rarely did he miss swatting at one and whacking it to the floor, left-pawed or rightie. I'd always cheer. He hung out in the kitchen, especially in the later years. The bar was his. His ashes and a beautiful photo of his sweet face now sit next to a candle I light every evening. I say goodnight, kiss his photo, and miss him as I climb into bed. In the morning, when reality hits my heart again, I miss him then, too. Puffy, Mammy misses you now, and will for the rest of her life...love you, "sweetest baby in the whole land." For anyone who has lost their furbaby soulmate, you know what I mean. It is one of the harshest pains humans have to struggle through.
