MSPCA Will Close Three Shelters |
|
|
We've been hearing it all over. The economy isn't only affecting us humans. It's affecting our pets, too.
This September, three shelters run by the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals are closing, including Brockton (September), Springfield (by the end of the month) and Martha's Vineyard (May). The economy has sucked the organization's $11 million endowment fund dry.
This will also result in the loss of 19 administative jobs in Boston, and more. The shelters, says MSPCA spokesperson Brian Adams, will continue to accept animals, and all will be transferred to the remaining open shelters in the state once the three close.
The MSPCA shelter in Brockton alone can house up to 4,200 pets a year, which puts into perspective the magnitude of this unfortunate problem affecting our pets.
