| Funniest Home Videos Not So Funny When Animals Are Hurting |

By guest blogger Lester Paquin I was flipping the channels a little while ago, and came upon that "funniest videos" show. In the segment I saw, there was nothing funny about it. Seems these low-life, white trash, money-grubbing mouth-breathers think it's "funny" to take videos of their pets (or zoo animals, or farm animals) in distress. In the short time I was watching, I saw a dog fall down stairs, another dog crash into a glass door (thinking it was open), another dog freak out in the passenger seat of a car because its owner thought it was hilarious to turn on the windshield wipers and see the dog's reaction, a dachshund falling into a swimming pool then struggling to get out (he had a tiny little life vest strapped to him), and a miniature chihuahua being hand-held and sprayed with a garden hose (the dog was shivering and terrified). Cats weren't immune either, as various methods of scaring them (big dogs, sudden loud noises, etc.), getting them wet, dressing them in stupid outfits, trapping them in bags or boxes and watching them try to escape, tricking them into tumbling off furniture or falling into toilets were featured. In both the dog and cat videos, there was a common theme of frightening them or teasing them with food. And another thing all of these "funny videos" shared in common was some dumbass behind the camera laughing themselves silly at what a hoot this all was. And you know that because this was on camera, the scene being pictured had been "performed" -- or worse, "rehearsed" -- many times over. Even more disgusting, many of the clips had children either on- or off-camera laughing, too -- what a nice lesson this teaches them. ("Hey, let's shoot Fido out of a cannon and onto a trampoline -- maybe we'll win some money!") And what about all the kids (and adults) at home who think this is funny? The show even encourages the public to "send us your videos of your (dog, cat, pony, lizard, etc.) acting up on camera." "Acting up"? They're scared and maybe even in pain. If some twentysomething ass hat wants to send in a video of himself getting clocked in the groin doing some dumb stunt, then more power to him. But any videos featuring animals should be BANNED from submission and their owners cited for animal cruelty.
